A walk down memolane…

I don’t know if you’ve heard of the website memolane.com, but you’ve probably noticed me frequently re-posting videos on the anniversaries of their releases (on Facebook.com/LindaHarrisonMusic). Now, I’m not some crazy person that is amazing with dates and just happens to remember I uploaded something a year ago, nor do I keep it in my diary as a day to celebrate! However, I have subscribed to Memolane and they send me daily emails that remind me of what I was doing on that date a year ago (or two/three/four years ago), for example here is the email I received yesterday:

Which means a year ago today I was performing at Media Camp Nottingham.

This reminded me that I uploaded a couple of clips from this performance, but for some reason I kept them private**. Anyway, I thought with it being a year ago that I recorded these video clips, today I should change them from private to public…so here is “Love Flu” from MCN4 2011:

**I do this with a lot of YouTube videos, before I upload any video I begin to believe it’s terrible and that I’m embarrassing myself. Most of the time I overcome the nerves and post the video anyway, but some stay behind closed doors for a long time (like the video above).

Who Knew 800 Views, Thank You!

Wow! It’s not been a full-week yet, but we’re nearly at 800 views (on the P!nk - Who Knew cover video). Thank you so much for watching and sharing! I’m trying to figure out a way to thank you; I think it should be a TinyChat session on www.LindaHarrisonMusic.com/members/chat - what do you reckon? Comment with day & time suggestions..I’m thinking Sunday evening/nights are quite good..?

Thank you, and please keep sharing and spreading the word :)

p.s. if you missed it - here is the “Starry Eyed” - Ellie Goulding cover video from a couple of weeks ago…

Tech talk on Midi body controllers

I’m about to geek out on you, so if you don’t like techy-talk - move onto the next post (QUICK)!

I’m going to be triggering some sounds in my band, and right now that means that I’ll probably be using a keyboard or some sort of APC40-style machine. However, I really want to wear my triggers; I want to be able to hit a button on my clothing and release a sound, or maybe pull on my necklace to unleash some screaming synth lines. For some reason, I thought this technology would be widely available - after all it can’t be that hard to programme a necklace right? Anyway, I couldn’t find what I was looking for…but I did find some other little gems:

First of all, we have the “BeatSneaks”, they are musical shoes. Unfortunately they are completely useless for what I want to do, unless I stand completely still until it’s time for the chorus to kick in:

Secondly I found the “Gypsy-MIDI Exo-Skeleton Body Suit”, it triggers things according to your movements. Unfortunately it’s not very attractive, and again might be difficult to use unless you stand still until it’s your turn to play. So I won’t be wearing it on-stage anytime soon, but check it out, it is insanely clever:

I’m hoping one day I can make my own MIDI controller; watch this space…

Allround DIY artist.

I can’t deny it, I am mighty impressed with myself for my DIY skills on this one. A key on my MicroKorg wasn’t working, so I went and bought some tools and fixed it. Check it out!

Step Back In Time (continued): LA LA Land

This is a follow up to “Step Back In Time: Lost in LA” http://lindabyharrison.com/2012/03/step-back-in-time/

So, the next day I woke up to this:

Not bad I’d say! But nothing like the view in the evening:

The point in sharing these photos is to say that when the skies are blue, it makes it easier to clear your head of clutter and start the day fresh. My week in LA began and I was open to any opportunity that might come my way. It’s been said that British people are reserved and sometimes come across as unfriendly, the opposite is true of LA people. I was stopped every day by someone wanting to give me a compliment, often these compliments turned into conversations which turned into “I know somebody that does videos/music/clothes/gigs - maybe they could help you”. The whole culture is far more relaxed, which made it so much easier for me to settle in and get to work.

While I was out there I was co-writing, finding contacts for music venues, making friends and getting inspired. It was all preparation for the things you’re going to see over the next 18 months. Particularly look out for the song “Supermodel” (written with Jacques Brautbar ex-Phantom Planet), some LA inspired clothing/jewellery and fingers crossed an American tour next March (2013).

Keep your eyes pealed for Step Back In Time: Part 3 where I find myself homeless (not for long) and I arrive at SXSW, the biggest festival for new music.

The strange things people search for

I was looking at my website statistics today and noticed the section called “Search Traffic”. It highlights the keywords that people have used in Google searches to result in them clicking onto my website - www.LindaHarrisonMusic.com . These are the top 10 keywords that have been used in searches to result in people visiting my website…please note Number 9: How to build a confessional booth! Although, number 8 is a little odd too.

But check this, I am ACTUALLY the 5th result on google for “how to build a confession booth”! Isn’t this brilliant?! I think my aim in life now is to get to that number one spot on google searches for confession booths. [jk]

Article continues after image…

This revelation comes after a discussion subsequent to my “Late Night Live Stream” with a ‘liker’ on my Facebook page called Lewis. I asked him how he had heard about me, and he explained a great story of how he had landed on my page twice after searching for completely different things. The first was a simple search for “grungy logos” but the second was quite special I think…it was…*drum roll*… ”how to blow a balloon.

If any of you have funny stories about how you found my music, I would LOVE to hear them.

Meanwhile, please feel free to watch the worst video blog I did ever. However, it was worth it to have Lewis onboard!
