Tech talk on Midi body controllers
I’m about to geek out on you, so if you don’t like techy-talk - move onto the next post (QUICK)!
I’m going to be triggering some sounds in my band, and right now that means that I’ll probably be using a keyboard or some sort of APC40-style machine. However, I really want to wear my triggers; I want to be able to hit a button on my clothing and release a sound, or maybe pull on my necklace to unleash some screaming synth lines. For some reason, I thought this technology would be widely available - after all it can’t be that hard to programme a necklace right? Anyway, I couldn’t find what I was looking for…but I did find some other little gems:
First of all, we have the “BeatSneaks”, they are musical shoes. Unfortunately they are completely useless for what I want to do, unless I stand completely still until it’s time for the chorus to kick in:
Secondly I found the “Gypsy-MIDI Exo-Skeleton Body Suit”, it triggers things according to your movements. Unfortunately it’s not very attractive, and again might be difficult to use unless you stand still until it’s your turn to play. So I won’t be wearing it on-stage anytime soon, but check it out, it is insanely clever:
I’m hoping one day I can make my own MIDI controller; watch this space…
